Also, will duel invites be limited to non-combat instances? Open Sea and towns? I'd hate to be in the middle of boarding combat and get challenged to a duel when I'm already trying to kill the bastard.

Duels will be limited to towns. Both the challenger and the challenged must be in a town to initiate the duel, and when you return from the duel instance you'll be returned to town.

I'll see if we can do a preference to auto-decline duels (as in you never get the pop-up), it's a reasonable request.

DrewC: "After the duel you're both returned to the ports you started in."

Which also tells me that you can duel someone in a different port if you know their name.

One issue that I see with having to be in a port to duel is you won't know what ship the other player is using until you accept and show up in the instance. However, I prefer that to being able to create duels while in the open seas, that would be just too exploitable.
You are exactly right that you cannot create a duel in the open sea to prevent all the exploits that would create (oh I'm about to be attacked, /duel buddy).

When you are challenged to a duel you get a pop up dialog box that includes the Name, level, career and current ship of the challenger. If the challenger changes ships he cancels the duel invite.

Same time.

If the later then where does that leave all existing classes?

It also means there's no room for additional Career skill lines, access to different ship lines, or career-specific outfitting, clothing or content. Anything we'd add for careers would end up getting shoehorned onto the career as a result of its mixed path, and it wouldn't be as good as what they'd get with two separate options that are built for them. Forcing multiple classes into a single class structure would be clunky and problematic in our skill system, as well as causing problems with respecs. There are things that we can give careers access to as a natural ability that we cannot do through purchased skills.

Sleek/Heavy Hercs are supposed to be post-50 ships. I'm more concerned about their overall effectiveness than the Pirate/MC Hercs. 4th Rates just had too good of a combination of cost and stats. There are tweaks in 1.3.

Somewhat. The problem comes from being able to get into a situation where you can sustain the ship indefinitely, thereby increasing the degree of exclusion.

They're a bit too expensive, and 4ths are a bit too cheap.

You could make that suggestion in the Community Suggestion forum.

1 in thread No server merge please [General PotBS Discussion]
What you're not taking into account is that some of the servers have significant problems. Case in point: Bellamy. We never really launched in Spain, and it was set up to be the Spanish server. As such, it's critically underpopulated, and it's unreasonable to require them to reroll.

Any time you do anything like that, the MMO forums all go crazy, because everyone loves to point at any problem and say "see, if only they'd taken my sage advice!!" without having to be particularly smart. It's not as fun to point to Blizzard and say that, since everybody just mocks you.

But I'm not nearly as concerned about the forums (where WoW is always one month from collapsing) as I am about our user experience. It really doesn't matter what forum people say, because they move on to the next game after a relatively short time. I'm more interested in making sure that our users have a good time, and telling their friends to try out the game.

Lineship bundles, provisions, rigging and hulls are unsecured in 1.3.

Reasons should be given. Flames about them just help ensure that that player will never come back.
That is exactly it.

It's a session ignore, not a permanent ignore. I wasn't directly involved in those discussions so I can't recall the specific reasons.

I think we've quite had enough squabbling back and forth on this one. Whilst it was an interesting topic to start, sadly thread about in-game/forum names almost always end up this way.
