Sounds like the game might not be so difficult for the casual gamer, afterall.

I'm a casual gamer myself, although most people wouldn't agree since I play three MMOs. Okay, so not all that casual; but my time in each game would be considered causal.
I can log in for an hour and do a wee bit of economy and a couple missions. Or, I can log in and group with others for some PVP/group missions and such. I never feel like I am behind everyone else.
We have a saying here, which came up from one of the PVP discussions in Closed Beta "There's no crying in the red circle".
You'll always know where the PVP zones are; they're big red circles. You can sail around them if you wish. If you need to get into that circle, you can always talk to your nation mates (You have quests or economy structures there) to run you in or you can just choose to play a different toon or just do some NPC hunting. It's very flexible.
