Basically, just any kind of map tool for group positioning and coordination would be great. Kind of like a Pictochat overlay on top of the map that a player can toggle on and off. Look at Guild Wars for some inspiration. It really would only be fitting for a naval combat/tactics game to have some way to do this.
ALSO! HUUUUUUGE issue! We need a way to see the map for port battles in the Ready Room. We have 15 minutes to stand around there chatting, but most of the time we have no clue what we're getting into. It's even more important here that we be able to create waypoints and draw routes on an interactive map that our groups can see. And furthermore, we have no idea which way those three doors lead!
ALSO Miniatures if you ever do implement such a system, the Ready Room! How can you have a port battle without little toy ship miniatures on the map table?!?!?

Nothing's impossible... but some things are futher off in the future than others. Interactive group maps would be awesome, but I can't say how immediately feasible it is.
As for the ready room, I'll check in with DesignCo to see if it fits with their vision of port battles.
