I hope it's something they can work on in the future, to allow Euro servers to be updated at 4am GMT for example and then American servers 8+ hours later at their 4am PST.
Per my earlier post, this has nothing at all to do with where the servers are located, and everything to do with the fact that we allow US and EU players to play on any US or EU server. The only way we could have different patch times is to not allow that, and that's not something we're going to do.

This may not be math that concerns anyone enough to make a change, but it would seem fair to execute the patches in USA prime time every 10th time or so while the rest of us slept. Btw - for the record, I'm an American server player living in the US who happens to work midnights for going on 18 years and have had to deal with this type of an issue for a long, long time.

Thank you for giving this post your consideration.
Long term, we should only have patches every couple weeks or so. Right now, in the launch phase, we'll run into issues that need to be patched quickly, so it seems like there is alot of down time right now. Long term that won't be the case.

Roberts did NOT have any system messages. We are posting to let the devs know something is wrong on Roberts with the automated? messages.
Indeed, I'm looking at WHY some of the EU servers didn't get messages.

Also, regarding the system messages:

GM's, for three or four hours before the outage window, announce on each server every 30 minutes. For the last 30-40 minutes they announce the outage every ten minutes.

We recognize that system messages can get lost easily in chat spam. We have a feature request in the hopper that will move them to a popup, but I don't know what the timeframe for it is.

My apologies, my shorthand verbiage was unclear.

When I say 'patching testbed to live' I mean I'm moving the version that's on testbed (1.0.48.0) to the live servers.

As far as downtime goes, the timing of it, etc, I posted about this before: http://www.burningsea.com/forums/sho...9&postcount=38

Unfortunately this isn't possible. We have to have one single update time for both the US and the EU. It has nothing to do with where the servers are located.

The main reason is that we, unlike many other games, don't segregate players based on location. In other words, we allow all of our EU/US players to play on both EU and US servers. That means, however, that we have to roll out patches at the same time, otherwise you'd be locked out of the EU servers if the US patch rolled out first, or vice versa.

When we decide on a patch time, it's done with the intent to affect the fewest possible players. This time, for us, is around 1.30am. We want to be done, in general, before 3.30am which is when the EU prime time starts getting going. It's a sweet spot of low concurrency for us, and it's likely that we'll use 1.30am - 3.30am as our patch time.

We recognize that whatever time we choose will always impact some number of players. But we make every possible effort to minimize the number of players impacted.

I went to sleep after I posted this, to get some rest before the outage. We'll let the port battle run and then do the outage afterwards. Long term, we'll announce a policy on this soon.
