Hello all,

We do encourage people to discuss and even debate almost whatever they wish. As long as people do not break the PotBS Forum Rules & Expectations, you can discuss your thoughts on the game.

However, if you do want to respond to a post where folks have expressed frustration or dissatisfaction, you should also be following the PotBS Forum Rules & Expectations.

Specifically, these rules:

- Do not abuse new users
Remember that new users will not always know where to find information that may be common knowledge to the seasoned forum user.

-No Flaming
While debate and discussion are encouraged, we will not tolerate rude or insulting posts, personal attacks or inflammatory posts of any kind.

Since this thread is not full of win, it will be closed out.

I've been watching this thread and we have not reproed the issue internally. I'm basically looking for more reports before we put more time into this issue (as there are a lot of other issues clamoring for attention).

All this for a game that is visually on par with games in 2005 or 2006 - so very unprofessional.
I'm not entirely sure where this is coming from, but here goes.

Yes, we made the game and we want people to pay us to play it, and it is our responsibility to make it work. The fact remains that we have a shifting ground underneath us when MS or Nvidia or other providers release updates to the code that we run on top of. And when it causes a problem, we look to see if it's exposed a bug in our code that wasn't a problem under the old drivers, or whether it's a bug in the new drivers. And if the latter, we report it to the driver company and they look into it. That's the point we're at right now. As soon as Nvidia figures out what's causing the problem, they can probably give us a better workaround until they deploy the fix in later drivers.

As for the "visually on par" I realize we don't use all the latest shader tricks. Crysis, as advanced as it is, doesn't hit the driver in all the same ways we do. Otherwise Nvidia wouldn't need a matrix to test against, they'd just use Crysis.

1 in thread Need help with being stuck. [Known Issues / Troubleshooting]
Moved your thread to Known Issues / Troubleshooting for your technical problem.

For your forum issue, make sure you log out and then log back in so your permissions sync up.

Go to www.burningsea.com and click on "log out" in the upper right corner of the page. Once logged out, then log back in. That should sort it out. If not, try it a couple of times for it to sync up.

1 in thread New patch causing connection issues [Known Issues / Troubleshooting]
That's true. Your long load time support request has been tossed over to SOE and I'm still waiting for a response as well.

This appears on the face to be a different issue, so I suggest filing another support request. In fact it appears you're experiencing 4 different symptoms, which may or may not arise from the same source:

1) "Can't connect" in Launchpad
2) Slow PlayPotBS.exe
3) lag in game
4) disconnection in game

1 & 2 are in SOE's milieu. I suggest filing a support request with them while we continue to push from this side.

3 & 4 are definitely in our territory, but as I said, we've made no changes to our network code. Please file another support request in our system so our GMs can help you track down the problem.

It's a very hacky fix for something that's a problem in Nvidia's drivers. This isn't speculative, this is something that's in Nvidia's cue to fix. But their cue is kind of long...

What we're going to do is roll out a new patch that lets you turn this off in Preferences. A lot of people were able to fix the problem by doing a variety of things (vertical sync, changing antialiasing, etc.) that only seem to work on a case by case basis. But if you do have things working without the flicker, you'll be able to turn off the flickerfix and run at full speed again.

Obviously, what we would like is to get the real fix in for you as soon as possible. But we're gated on Nvidia.

1 in thread Is it just me? Reviews. [General PotBS Discussion]
Typically, the press organizations have an "MMO guy" who is the resident expert on the genre. Odds are they're playing WoW amongst other games. When they come to review our game, they see a lot of cool new things, and some rough edges. It's really a question as to how much someone values new and inventive over traditional and polished.

So, stay on topic. If the OP isn't having a good time, it's okay. If they're frustrated, it's okay. Let's all remember the two rules above before posting.

1 in thread Looking for Buddy Key? Have one to share? [New User Questions]
You can't "loan" a key. You can only use a key.

However, this isn't the place on the forum to beg for one; I'll move your thread to the proper place.

Cheers!
