FWIW Potbs.exe is the game executable. PlayPOTBS.exe is a shortcut to the launchpad for Pirates of the Burning Sea.

1 in thread Why the heck did you crank up the difficulty? [Discuss: World & Missions]
Please note that the only missions we made harder were those from levels 1-15, in the first three towns. That's it. We didn't make any mission difficulty changes past that.

If you're having trouble with a mission that isn't in the first three towns, that's not caused by any mission difficulty changes we've made, and you should discuss what ship you're in, your tactics, etc., to see if the issue is your approach or if the specific mission is just too hard.

It affects the ships and avatars you fight. They will be tougher, or more numerous, or both. If they're higher level, they are worth more XP and loot.

Having just noticed your specs in your sig, you're certainly playing at a resolution that benefits from SLI, and your hard drives are wicked fast. I'm puzzled, you should have fantastic performance.

But the thing is that "good' performance in this game is still very poor considering the graphics level and all - running through a town and hitting spots where framerates drop dramatically towards 25/30 or so, missions with several allies and enemies and framerates drop towards 25/30, any somewhat crowded OS area (such as around Tortuga) and framerates drop towards 25/30.
Boy, this makes what you've been saying a lot clearer! It sounds like you're hitting a very specific problem with us. Thoughts:

1) We have several machines that run in SLI here in the office, and get the frame rate improvement that you'd expect to see. I'll try and dig out some performance numbers later today.

2) At 1280x1024, you see very little improvement with SLI. We see the big improvements at 1920x1200.

3) Are we the only game you see performance dropping in half on the Vista SLI? Both our SLI configs are on Vista.

4) When avatars come on the screen, there's sometimes a load from the hard drive that slows the frame rate down. Normally, we pre-load them before you get to the avatars, though.

I hope you permanetly get it resolved soon though!
Are you on Vista? There is an issue with the virtual store and where the client gets its settings from. You need to edit pirates_local.ini with a text editor with admin/elevated privlages.

To clarify what Rev said, all support for the game is handled by FLS. Sadly, if the problem has to do with LaunchPad or your game key, we will do what we can, but we're limited in our abilities and have to SOE involved.

As Rev noted, support times do vary. Sadly, right now, it can be days for non-emergency issues although we are working hard to improve our turn-around time.

If we determine you should be reimbursed in some way due to a game bug, we'll coordinate meeting you in game to make that transaction. In other words, file a support request through the support system and someone will contact you about how to acquire the reimbursement.

Hope that helps.

There is nothing special about the files that would prevent you from deleting them like anything else. My guess is that the OS still thought there was an open file handle to something. Try restarting your computer and then deleting the files.
