Corte formed up a 6 man group today, comprising 3 Hercules, 1 Deliverance, 1 Reason and 1 Discovery. We had plans for the evening, but saw that Sisal and Campeche had obviously been flipped using turn ins, so we decided to head down and try and clear the zone (you know, being that its our starting towns and Econ Tutorial ports).
So we put on our PVP flags, and head on over.
Now, theres something you may not know about us. We only PVP with everyone on vent. We stay tight on the Open Sea. We exit battles as a group. This is what we do, and we do it as best as we humanly can.
So, we move into the zone. First thing that happens is we get pulled (as a group) into an instance. Its a lone pirate, and he turns and runs without firing a single shot. We wait till all members are out of combat, and we exit. We move maybe 10 miles, and as soon as adhoc invis drops we are pulled into another instance (as a group). Again, its a solo pirate, who turns and runs without firing a single shot.
This happens possibly 4 or 5 times. We actually get to sink 1 pirate who got a bad spawn, but the rest get away without firing a single shot. We start getting annoyed, and decide to start to head out of the zone. We exit another pointless ad-hoc, and start moving together as a group. Again, as soon as ad-hoc invis drops we are tackled, but this time one of our members doesnt get pulled in with us. It turns out he had the "Preparing for Battle" debuff for a few seconds after ad-hoc invis dropped, and as such didn't get the auto join.
The pirate that pulled us in of course runs. But our member who was on top of the ad-hoc instance has now sailed past it (while he was clicking on it like crazy), and he then gets pulled by a seperate pirate group, who then is able to demast him and board him (which is fine - thats how solo players are supposed to lose ships to pirates).
I have 2 issues.
1. At no time have I ever seen FLS endorse engaging players in pvp when you have no intent to fight. This whole business back in closed beta with rafts etc ended up getting people banned. If they have changed their position on this style of play, then ok. But last I heard they haven't.
2. The "preparing your ship" debuff that is applied to you when you leave port or leave a combat instance should not allow your group to be intentionally split. It currently does, and I believe that is a broken mechanic. To then use that broken mechanic to achieve something that you should not be able to do to an organised and experienced PVP group in my opinion is an exploit.
These are the facts, and my opinion in relation to those facts. Your mileage may vary.
