It sounds like we have a group consensus on the topgallant -- I also think it feels a bit modern, but in light of ships such as the St. Ann, not too modern for me to say it's out of period. Though one will note, the t'gant yard of the St. Ann is significantly shorter than the topsail yard -- while on this rig, they're about the same. In the present case that makes it look more like a 19th-century split topsail, which is probably what's giving everyone the jitters.

Since you're asking, here's my personal recommendation, take it or leave it: Use the current topgallant yard as the topsail yard. That will still give a "tall" rig to your sloop while still looking firmly period-appropriate.

You choose your hate wisely and accurately.

This game looks to have a great future.
We planned the bug fix patch a while back. When we were in beta, we were throwing out patches quite frequently, without the full testing we like to do. Now that we're in release, we're slowing down the process to make sure that the patches are getting a good dose of testing. The next patch will be a content patch, but it will contain fixes for bugs that we've found since this patch went into the testbed server and RC testing.

Actually, a fascinating dev log would be an explanation on our branching system, and our three main branches and how they work in terms of churning out new patches.

SOE tells me the patch servers are all fixed now.

The patch is larger than it needs to be because of a problem with Alchemy. Essentially, every time we touch a room, it re-organizes the entire file. Every...single...time. Which means delta patching (the actual bit changes of one file to another) doesn't work.

However, in a feat similar to decyphering the Rosetta Stone, we finally found the problem, and now when we write out a file, it only writes the section that changed. Which means that we have a one time hit for each art area converting it over, and after that, fixes will result in dramatically smaller patches. For example, if we went in and made tons of fixes to all the art that was fixed in this patch, we'd have a dramatically, dramatically smaller patch. So we'll still have some big patches as we touch other art areas, but it'll get smaller and smaller over time.

1 in thread All Servers are Live! [News and Press Releases]
All of our Pirates of the Burning Sea game servers are now live after having been upgraded to version 1.1.54.0.

When you log in to the launcher you will automatically download a new patch. Patch notes can be found here.

Note: Some users are currently experiencing some issues with patching. We are working with SOE to resolve this issue and will let you know when we have more information.

1 in thread This is not aliased [Flags and Sails]
Keep in mind that sails are stretched across a large area of canvas. Any time you see sharply defined pixels in a decal, the end result will look rather Atari-esque once it's in-game and seen up close. Contrast the two areas highlighted in the attached -- the green should look OK in-game, but the red (and many other areas like it) will end up looking like a graphic glitch, despite your best intentions. You'll need to soften the edges a bit to avoid that, even if you're looking for a ragged design.

Almost. It will have a "report this flag/sail" button that leads to a comment submission, just like the "report this post" button. Making such claims, however justified, is always best dealt with privately (currently that means via PM to a 2D Steering Committee member).

And as Toshiro notes, whenever calling a submission to the attention of the devs as a potential copyright/trademark violation, please provide reference material. Collectively we devs are pretty smart, but that doesn't make us omniscient.

SOE is having troubles getting the patch out. They report all patchers except Amsterdam are online.
