1 in thread Question on Triangle Sails [Shipwright Discussion]
We're working on compiling some info for Scooder, but it's hard to be a taskmistress from several thousand miles away. I actually don't know our tri-sail mapping, because I'm not the person who puts the sails on the ships. (That's probably a good thing, because if I were doing the texture mapping, I'd flip the texture vertically so it looks like the sail could be reefed along the bottom -- accurate for headsails, but a compromise for lateens as the reef band in them should actually be near the top of the sail but a few degrees' tilt lower than the yard.)

1 in thread User content deleted [Sony Station accounts]
We've always done our best to make it clear that in submitting User Content, you're effectively transferring copyright ownership to Flying Lab Software. That's been policy and intent from day one.

That said, the intent is not to prevent you from using your designs elsewhere. If you want to make a T-shirt with your User Content design on it and sell it, we're not going to ask for royalties. Feel free to do as you wish with it. (The same holds true, incidentally, for User Content ships.)

If you have questions or feel you need to discuss the matter further, please contact me directly via PM.

(NOTE: Contest winners may be subject to slightly different rules; I can check if anyone needs me to.)

1 in thread French corvette L'Unite [Shipwright Discussion]
We're currently looking for ships made and used between 1660-1740. L'Unit?i> is well outside of that timeframe. You'll need to find or make plans more suited to a game set in 1720

1 in thread Changes to La Couronne graphics for historical reasons [Shipwright Discussion]
FLS decided, quite some time ago, that the Couronne makes a fine and extremely antiquated merchant galleon for PotBS's game setting. The vision for this ship is that it's a rich merchant's antique toy -- an old warship sold out of service, bought by an eccentric thousandaire as much as a status symbol as a working ship. The 3DSC and Flying Lab talked extensively about this and agreed unanimously that it would be terribly out of place as a bona-fide warship in 1720, but as there is a long history of warships being sold into merchant service and enjoying exceptional longevity as such, that's the role to which the still-mighty Couronne has been assigned.

You'll note a similar story behind the 44-gun Oliphant. She is bedecked and fitted as a warship-turned-Indiaman, and was deliberately made in a style a bit outdated for 1720 -- just not as much so as the Couronne.

If LiMuBei is interested in revisiting the model to take down some of the superstructure and make a variant version, FLS will consider ways to use it... and may even consider moving the Couronne a bit further to the sidelines. But we still consider her useful to the game as-is and don't feel this would be a priority.

Why don't we file this particularly handsome and strangely compelling flag design under the "out of period" category, Mr. Funnyman. The reason it appeared to be in your inventory has everything to do with the way we cache flag and sail designs. While it may have looked to you (and anyone else who had seen the design before it was pulled) like it was still a valid flag, it actually wasn't visible to anyone else once the design was yanked.

After that, it was just a matter of time before your cache cleared and the flag disappeared.

The sad part about all this is that I was the one that accidentally approved the flag in the first place- followed by a swift rejection once I realized I'd been had.

Well played sir, well played.

Best,
Aether

We're working on it. Dev couldn't repro. Wanted QA to try and wanted the resulting server logs. QA couldn't repro at first but later was able to reliably but the logs tell us nothing. Dev's now looking into it again.

1 in thread Questions on new Appeals Process [Flags and Sails]
IMPORTANT UPDATE: In order to help ensure the appeals process runs smoothely, we are limiting appeals to one per user per 24-hour period. It doesn't do anyone any good if the appeals come in faster than the 2DSC can discuss them
