Being able to pick your fights is far too powerful an ability for anyone to have with certainty. We don't want anyone, sailing any ship, to be able to run away from every fight. High end warships have to be able to run down smaller ships in the long haul, just as smaller ships have to be able to out maneuver large ships, and out accelerate (and thus out run them) in the short run.
Is it possible that the Mordaunt specifically is too fast? Certainly, that's possible. We know that several frigates are too slow right now. We are not going to move to a situation where SOLs cannot catch a frigate. It should be hard for them to catch a frigate, it should be a challenge, but it must be possible.
This is not driven by 1v1 PvP, but group PvP. Yes, we expect SOLs to be escorted, but why would you ever sail an SOL if that SOL cannot hope to catch a Frigate? If a group of 6 in Frigates faces a group of 3 SOLs and 3 Frigates, if the 6 Frigates can completely dictate the terms of engagement they're going to win. We fully expect a solo SOL to lose to a solo level 50 frigate (there may be issues with this currently because of speed problems we're fixing), but a group of 3 SOLs and 3 Frigates should be an incredibly dangerous threat to a group of 6 Frigates, not something you can just turn and run away from.
There is no doubt that right now the relative speed for Mordaunts and the high end Frigates is off. We're absolutely addressing that. But we don't intend to allow anyone to pick and choose all of their fights.
