@ Araxus

I looked at the information you attached to your incident report. It appears to be a known crash that is related to memory leaks. It is a pretty high priority to get this one fixed.

IIRC, it's gated on being flagged "In Combat" and the battle has to be inside a PvP zone.

I'd be interested to know if there are problems with server 2003 - I'll look for the post.

This came up in another thread, but I think new players may see French and Spanish and assume/fear that these are French or Spanish speaking factions. I know that when I first saw the screen, I hesitated for a moment and wondered as much. This could account for why so many people roll Brits and Pirates.
I've forwarded this on to the UI strike team to see what they think. I assume you're referring to the fact that many of the names are actually French or Spanish names?

1 in thread Dev's what is the vision and role of the privateer? [Ask an FLS Developer!]
Ships of the line should be faster at the high end than scout ships, but they should take much longer to accelerate to that speed. The idea is that if you let a ship of the line chase you in a straight line, you've made an error.

We are not going to return to the point when scout ships were faster on the straight away than ships of the line. We moved away from that specifically to give large ships a chance of engaging smaller ships. However, the top speed disparity is too great right now, and we're working to addressing that.

No one should be able to pick all of their fights. Ships of the line, with their slow ramp up speed, poor maneuverability, and limited speed at some wind angles, have built in vulnerabilities in that department. If small ships were faster than them on the straight away, they would never be able to engage a small ship. At the same time, there's no question that right now the speed of several frigates is too low. We're increasing it for just that reason.

There will likely be a post later today (possibly tomorrow) with more discussion of some speed changes we're making. I'll be sure to drop a link to that in this thread when it goes up.

1 in thread Taelorn : So is this a bug or a feature? [Ask an FLS Developer!]
We feel that the problem of a few very limited cases where people can generate unrest outside of the PvP zone for the port is much less of a problem than the unrest generation radius being too small.

DrewC is in the process of changing that radius from 40 miles (or so) to 100 miles (or so). The change will be in 1.2. It was a bug caused by programmers liking centimeters and designers liking meters. Oops.
