Ouch! Sorry guys, I know this sucks. I've pinged Bigpond and I'll let you know what I hear. We wanted to get the patch out before Easter break, but there was no indication ahead of time that the patcher was going to have these issues.

Cutthroat would effectively be what you have now, with some skill set alterations. That includes the same career missions and everything along that line. Most of the skills that would be cut are ones that are undesirable, duplicate or just generally unused in the career. It'd be more of a rename than a new career, with some of the existing skills focused a bit more.

We can't reasonably offer a career change, as there's a ton of character data and history that's related to your career. And if we offer a career change when a new career is implemented... well, it's the same issue as a restricted respec system. Many people (myself included) would likely screw up their new character or find they don't like the one they picked, then they'd want to go back. That would lead us towards a situation where we'd need to investigate offering a persistent career change, and the entire thing would be a huge bug farm.

The low level skill would always be the one that gets cut.

This ship scuttling bug is not even remotely funny. I was thinking more along the lines of the SWG patch that let you milk your speederbike.

Unfortunately we don't have a "recover scuttled ship" command at our disposal, or this would be easy. There are enough people affected by this bug that we can't track down every single item, so instead we're providing replacement ships, unique items, and plenty of cash to buy back the more common (player craftable) stuff.

I'm going to follow-up with you directly, Jaxx. Your case isn't exactly covered by the guidelines we gave the GMs.

The 50 Navy ships are too dominating and that's something we want to change, but we don't want to approach it by removing expensive ships from other careers. Fourth Rates have been way too freely available, and combined with their stats there wasn't much reason to use anything else. That means the ship stats and costs are areas that have a high probability of changing.

You shouldn't be able to undock and then join a fight, so that's not working as intended. You're correct that if you have preparing ship and your group gets attacked, that's when you should be able to join the fight.

1 in thread New spam reporting not working? [Known Issues / Troubleshooting]
It should be working fine. I've moved this to Known Issues / Troubleshooting for assistance. I'd recommend filing a bug report with screenies.

Thanks!

1 in thread About port battle times [Ask an FLS Developer!]
Hello gang,

I've moderated this to remove the forum pvp out of it. The best way to get an answer from a RedName is to *not* get into bickering and name-calling.

Please keep this on-topic to the OP's questions.

Thank you for your understanding.

1 in thread The Buccaneer [In Concept]
The Buccaneer is a new Pirate career that would provide more diversity to the pirate faction. With the introduction of Buccaneers, the existing Pirates would become Cutthroats and see moderate changes to their skill set. Some of the extraneous skills (such as economic skills) would get stripped away, condensing the Cutthroat skill set into one focused on speed and damage. Where the Cutthroat is analogous to a Blackbeard-style pirate that takes no prisoners, the Buccaneer would have more in common with the mafia – organized crime that attempts to hide behind a legitimate business front.

Creating the Buccaneer would mean adding more skill functionality, allowing us to create skills that aren’t possible in the current system. Around one third of the Buccaneer’s skills would use new functionality. Gameplay-wise, the Buccaneer is focused on actions that impact his surroundings, and not on sustained damage or toggles. That means the Buccaneer has lots of buffs, group buffs, debuffs, special attacks and survival skills.

Individual skills include:

1) Increased range for dismantling shot
2) Debuffs that rely on the size of the target ship
3) A DR-ignoring attack
4) Attacks and debuffs that get stronger as they hit with more shots (up to a limit)
5) Improved combat capabilities when outnumbered (usable during a fight after someone has died)
6) A chance to score critical hits
7) Additional crew damage with all ammos types
8) Exceptional economic abilities in enemy ports
9) High-impact short term buffs to stats like damage and defense
10) Passive stealth and attack range boosts for the Open Sea.
11) Group toggles

Buccaneers would have access to a mixture of ships similar to current pirate and freetrader ships, while many of the cutthroat refits would get changed or replaced.

A moderate amount of the new skill functionality would propagate to other careers and their skills, meaning that everyone would get new stuff (and a free respec). To go along with this, we’d look into making it possible for players who already have a level 50 character to create a new character that starts at level ~20.

1 in thread No Tiered Ship Skills [In Concept]
Right now, there are many ship skills that have two tiers, such as Flog Gunners 1 and Flog Gunners 2.

This change would remove all of the skills that appear twice within a single career. To go along with that, every career would receive new skills to replace the lost skills. Skill chains would get moved around or collapsed to accommodate the changes, and everyone would receive a free respec.
