Or perhaps, thoughtful. There are a number of reasons why we made the changes, the goldspammers were just one of them. The reason why we changed the server count is becuase it's sole function is to give a new player an idea of what the populations of the servers are. The "just this minute" population isn't nearly as useful as the average over a week.
And generally speaking, if the argument were that we were trying to hide server counts, why would I be talking about looking at server merges?
General summary: The gloom and doom isn't nearly as gloomy or doomy as people think, but this doesn't mean that our server concurrency is where we want it to be. Hence, we're working on it.

It didn't - the /whocount was removed to reduce the whining about player numbers - anyone who thinks otherwise is blind and/or stupid.
