We tend to be very cautious about making economic changes. But yes, we're upping money income from NPCs, we're making changes to make PvP much more lucrative, and we're working on port rewards.

Not sure I've ever seen a game where they overshot this far and taken this long to do something about it though.

It would be nice if you actually quoted Rev in context. This "we built the game we wanted to build" was about a specific aspect of the game (notably, PvP). Applying it to any decision that we've made as though we blithely took no feedback is patently untrue.

And Rev was one of our most valued employees. We were all sad to see him go.

Beta testers say a lot of things. Some of it is really useful. Some of it is terrible. Some of it contradicts with what other beta testers said. Going through it to get the useful is not a simple exercise, and sometimes we miss or don't agree with opinions that later turn out to be true. That will always be the case, because there are a LOT of opinions that are expressed.

So was Rev encouraged to leave or did he leave of his own accord before the **** hit the fan.

Do you believe FLS has now learnt & will put it right or is it too late?

1 in thread Game crashes Ive had enough [Ask an FLS Developer!]
Wow, that's pretty awful! Have you filed a support ticket for this? We've been working with Nvidia pretty closely to track down these issues and fix them, which has helped the time to fix.

1 in thread Blackbeard Server Is Currently Going Through A Spam Barrage [Known Issues / Troubleshooting]
Huh, we'd just rolled out a fix which was devious and seemed to be working great. We'll dig into it.

Also, in 1.2, we have a chat improvement to help manage and report spammers.
Rusty
Actually, it was another dev change that we haven't talked about, because it not only fixes a lot of the spam chat, but it also doesn't give any clue as to how it's fixing it. Hence, we're not talking about it, but it's a huge win. It's reduced the amount of spam dramatically, which reduces the load off of our customer support team, which is helping them to finally catch up with requests.

Before someone beats them down, and they shut up (im assuming this is a GM) So, as long as your area chat is turned off you won't hear em, but they really are still around =P Just not in the same numbers.
Rusty
Or perhaps, thoughtful. There are a number of reasons why we made the changes, the goldspammers were just one of them. The reason why we changed the server count is becuase it's sole function is to give a new player an idea of what the populations of the servers are. The "just this minute" population isn't nearly as useful as the average over a week.

And generally speaking, if the argument were that we were trying to hide server counts, why would I be talking about looking at server merges?

General summary: The gloom and doom isn't nearly as gloomy or doomy as people think, but this doesn't mean that our server concurrency is where we want it to be. Hence, we're working on it.

It didn't - the /whocount was removed to reduce the whining about player numbers - anyone who thinks otherwise is blind and/or stupid.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't do some server consolidation. There's another thread about this, but basically, we made some miscalculations on how many people should be on a server. There's another long thread about this where I go into detail on what we were thinking, and what we learned, but basically, the upshot is that our vision for how many people should be on a server was significantly lower than what we think it should be now. Rather than waiting for us to slowly build up the population, we're going to be fixing it directly.

The Rack is Back!

The reboot should clear up the problem, but if it doesn't, please let us know.

Yeah, we locked the server so that people wouldn't log in right before the reboot. It should be back up shortly.
