We're definitely in agreement that the learning curve is a bit steep. We focus more on the tools in the tutorials, and very little on what you should do with them. It's something that we're working on, though you wouldn't believe how difficult it is to do a good tutorial, especially for something that's conceptually large.

We have one program starting that will help people learn how to play effectively, but it's lots of reading. What do you guys think about training videos that you could watch on the web that would explain these concepts? I know it's not as good as having it in the game, but we could roll it out a lot faster.

They're not for the Aussie servers. And yeah, we've alerted the guys over there to look at what's going on with their patcher.

They pay to buy an account (which gives them a free month) and then continues onward. They don't have to install anything, as they already have the most recent version of the game.

He already filed a support ticket. Depending on the problem, it can sometimes be useful to post in the forums as well (particularly if I can solve the problem).

We actually run it on Vista Business and Ultimate in the office on quite a few machines. That's not to say that your configuration will behave like ours, given that PCs are a hodgepodge of different elements, but I'm pretty sure there's no fundamental problem with running on the OS.

Like hell it will.
I'm not sure where that's coming from, but input from Testbed is looked at constantly. Our goal is to get more people to play Testbed and give more feedback, hence the character copies.

Fixing the scuttle bug before going live would have cut out 100+ hours of work for customer service. (Guestimate) One person could have discovered this bug, reported it, and had it fixed before going live. The cost for this one person is much less than all the CS dept that had to deal with this issue. It also frees up the CS dept to deal with the other issues.

I could have added three extra people and not found that bug. Or have found it with no extra people. The game is HUGE, and the test matrix is extremely large as it is. We can always add more cases to test (and obviously we do when we run into a significant problem) but there will never be a guarantee no matter how large our staff. We do have a sizeable QA team and they do their job, but there's no substitute for beta. That's why we encourage you to play on Testbed whenever we're about to post a big update. It's *really* useful to us.

1 in thread Advice for two flags please [Flags and Sails]
First one looks really nice! The sewn effect in the yellow is spot-on. You'll probably want to desaturate the blue just a touch.

For the weathered one, you'll want to look in the Tutorials and Resources sticky for advice on tattering. It doesn't look like your transparency (alpha channel) is coming through. Also, it would be almost impossible for a flag to get "burned edges" while in active use -- though you've done a creditable job of imitating a flag onto which cinders were scattered, whilst folded away for storage. I doubt that's the look you were going for so I'd suggest eliminating the "burn."

Looking forward to the next versions!

We're still working on the fix for BigPond users. I'm currently awaiting info from TestCo on this, I'm hoping within the next couple days.
