L2P: Learn To Play.
As I read threads on the forums, two kinds of posts really jump out at me:
Posts where the player is confused about some fundamental aspect of the game and is not having a good time as a result
Posts where the player has a lot of expertise about some aspect of the game and everyone who happens to read that post becomes a better player as a result
The purpose of the L2P forum is to bring these two types of posters together.
Ok, how do I participate?
Are you an expert on some aspect of the game? Do you know the Navy career inside and out, and can offer mathematical analysis or specific tactical recommendations for each Naval skill? Write a guide post. The best guide posts will be stickied.
What if there's already a guide post on the topic in which I'm an expert?
Post to that thread, offering more information, clarifying the original post, dissenting, whatever. The whole thread is the guide -- the original post and all the discussion that follows.
What if I just have a question about some aspect of the game?
Post it! If it inspires someone to write a guide, great. If the replies to your question would make a good guide, we'll sticky it! If there's already a guide post, post your question in that thread, and add to the discussion. Remember: if you don't know the answer, that means there are many other people out there who don't, either, and who will benefit from your post.
This guy is TOTALLY WRONG ZOMG
Post why in the thread. Be polite and reasoned. Your dissent improves the guide post.
This thread is totally obsolete, and my new post is better anyway.
If a new guide post supersedes an old guide post, and is generally of higher quality, we may unsticky the first post and sticky the new post. This isn't a popularity contest, so don't take it personally if your guide is unstickied. If there's still useful information you want to keep from it, post it into the new guide.
I can't wait to start an off-topic thread/complaint thread/flamewar in this forum!
If your post isn't asking a question about how to be a more effective player, or offering information about how to be a more effective player, it may be removed without warning. Even if it doesn't otherwise violate the rules, it may be removed to ensure the forum doesn't clutter up with things that aren't people helping people L2P.
Why didn't you sticky my post on how to beat the second Freetrader career mission?
While specific missions may be difficult, and demand specialized knowledge, they're typically more limited in scope than we're looking for, and more likely to show up on third-party sites. We're more focused on how to help everyone become a more effective player overall. However, feel free to write those guides! They just might fall below the first page.
Are you just trying to create an Elitist Jerks for Pirates?
Yes.
