Word of mouth is the most important advertising tool we have. Pirates is a very different game than the usual MMO (which can lead to a cultural shock when people come over from WoW), and we have to find our audience. We do that by you folks finding like minded people and giving them the word.

As for MMORPG, like a lot of you, I really like the staff over there. We've had great relations with them, and enjoy working with them. But the forums are horrific, and serve as examples why we actively participate here as well as have moderation. Active participation serves two purposes: It lets us set the tone of the discussions, and it lets players talk to us directly. When you know you're being heard, you're more likely to discuss the issue than just shout to get attention.
