The first thing you should fiddle with is anti-aliasing. Some people have had luck by downgrading their drivers to an older version.

I don't know if I'd say that. We want users with high-end cards and users with low-end cards both to have a good time playing our game. That said, when the high-end settings are stressing your machine, no matter if it's because we made a mistake or there's some incompatibility on your system or the moon is gibbous, turning down the settings will increase your stability and performance.
New graphics hardware exposes new timing issues, behavior-changing optimizations, fixes old bugs that devs didn't know were bugs and relied on the broken behavior, etc. New graphics drivers fix old bugs but introduce new ones. You can never tell for sure. The software development world moves too quickly to be an exact science. Welcome to the edge and thanks for helping us explore it!
