FLS has totally dropped the ball on even trying to censor these forums, one person opinon once again must be king of all. We don't censor what people say as long as it's not violating the Community Rules. People can complain all day if they choose, as long as they're not breaking the rules.
There are *thousands* of posts a day. We work as hard as we can to watch them for rules violations (we need sleep, days off, etc...) but the best way to keep the forums clean is to:
1. Don't respond in anger to an opinion you don't like.
2. Don't insult other people for whatever reason
3. Use the "Report this post" feature, which brings it to our attention rather than relying on us to read every single thread on every section of the forums.
Folks should take responsibility for their posting behaviour, but sometimes folks get angry, get upset or want to defend their honour when they've been slighted.
I have a rule for myself which has been standing since ye olde Usenet days...
When responding to someone when I'm emotional or feel strongly about something, type it up in Notepad. Step away from the computer. Come back, read it again *out loud* to see how it sounds. At that point, I realize that there will be someone offended or they'll misread intent (as we cannot gauge emotion or intent in a text based form). If someone does misread my intent, then I didn't do a very good job of expressing myself. Instead of calling that person a name or insulting their parentage, I apologize and ask what they did read and clarify my point.
It's amazing the friendships or acquaintances I've developed over the years because of it.
So, that's my long story about communicating in digital form.
