Absolutely. If this continues to be a problem we will look at additional solutions.

San Juan was intended to be the next redo, but I'm pushing it off for a bit. These capital towns are huge projects which take up almost the entire environment team, and I'd like to take a milestone or two break and go back and add in a lot of new swashbuckling/ship combat environments, and redo one of the starter towns. The Spanish, French, and British starting towns were created early on in the project, and aren't up to the look of what we've developed since (for example, Marsh Harbour is dramatically better).

Plus, I want to try out our new dual approach to town navigation, specifically, instancing/seamless. Right now, pretty much everything is instanced. I think that's a bad approach that we sort of dropped into because it was so necessary for the ships. We're going to redo one of the starting towns and use seamless when it makes sense (relatively small, high traffic areas) and instancing when it makes sense (much bigger, complex interiors that you don't go to as much).

Which town will we start with? I'm leaning towards Spanish, just because I'm feeling bad about not doing their capital next, but it could be French or British as well. All of them need love.

The good news for the Spanish is that it'll be the first capital city that incorporates this new design technique, and I think it'll be stronger for it.

Taelorn and Rusty both touched on this, but didn't get to the heart of the matter.

Yes, the game needs more features like the ones on your list. Most of the systems you mentioned are on our list too. (Do you have a spy at FLS? ) As we get further from launch we will have more programming resources to devote to that sort of thing. They have been focusing on critical bug fixes and customer service tools up to this point, but that part of their workload is settling down now.

The game also needs repeatable PvE content. Right now players who want to play PvE run out of content and have nothing more to do. The epic missions provide challenging repeatable gameplay for PvE players, which is something that both PvP and economic players already have. Fortunately this content requires much less programming time, so the content team is able to continue to pump them out while the programmers work on other things.

We're getting better at partitioning out the town for better performance.
