There were no changes to ship combat or loot in 1.0.44 or in 1.0.47. You must just be getting a) lucky or b) better.

The fact is, most pirates had careers that were measured months, scurvy was a common part of life, and very few ships ever fired their cannons in battles.

Obviously, we've drawn a line of what we're interested in portraying in the world, and what we'd rather leave behind. And this is one of the elements that we'd rather leave behind.

Hello all,

Actually, we have said many things about this topic before. A forum search in the archived older forums will find a plethora of FLS responses.

I'll give you an example from Aether:

I'll repeat this once again for the benefit of some of our newer community members: While the storyline for Pirates of the Burning Sea takes place in the Age of Sail, our version of history will differ in many ways. Slavery and sexism will never be features in our game for very obvious reasons, and frankly, it is beyond bizarre that people would expect such things in our modern times.

I invite anyone with further questions to do a forum search on the subject in order to find the myriad of official responses to any argument you may have to the contrary.

Best,
Aether

Whilst one may agree or disagree with the historical accuracy of civil war history, our game forum isn't the place to discuss it.

That's a really silly assertion.

The kinds of groups that you would consider "PC Police" would probably prefer that we INCLUDE slavery, since suppressing all references to it denies that it ever happened and could be construed as forgiving the crimes of those who committed slavery.

We excluded slavery because this is a game about romance and adventure, not the brutal realities of life in 1720. We also left out scurvy, malaria, impressment, dysentery, and syphilis. Plus, in a dramatic news flash, ships don't really sail directly upwind and crew don't magically regenerate.

We made the game we made to be a fun, piratey experience. Asking that it include the miseries of slavery is silly, and accusing us of kowtowing because we didn't make a game that included slavery is sillier.

This is an unrelated issue. You should file a support ticket.

The list you see in server selection is based on which servers have the same version as your client. Testbed & the live servers had the same version all last week.

Weird thing is that my files fail to include a regular ol' playpotbs.exe, dont know where it possibly could of gone, but is there a way to get it back without uninstalling/reinstalling?
That is weird. By default it goes to C:\Program Files\Flying Lab Software\Pirates of the Burning Sea\PlayPotBS.exe. You might try Start | Search to see if it got moved somewhere?

You could try running the thin installer. Afterward you'll probably have to wait while Launchpad patches itself back to current, but it should put PlayPotBS.exe and the shortcut back without affecting the much larger game files.

Benjamin Wickham is in the tavern. If you've already taken his missions, then you should be able to visit the admiral's agent in Rosignol. Beyond that, it will be difficult for me to help you without knowing what missions you have and what missions you've taken.

Hmmm there actually are footsteps. I"ll check the volume of them, maybe they are down a little low, or there is something else funky going on.

As far as more voices during ship combat, it'd be cool. There is a laundry list of items I'm hoping to be able to add once we've got more resources!

As always, thanks for listening.
