/who and /whocount both use exactly the same code behind the scenes. /whocount just didn't show the names. So we disabled them both to make life harder for the spammers. The population levels on the server list screen aren't going anywhere. LFG/LFGWHO are both opt-in, so the lists are much shorter. It's possible that the spammers will start using them to substitute for /who... I hope not.
1.2 has improved UI for the LFG system (that will make it more useful and easier to use) and tons of anti-spam systems, so the spam problem should be much better at the same time that LFG becomes more useful.

I THINK that change just made them worth nothing when you sell them to an NPC. They're still useful to players, so selling them to players will get you money. I'll check on that when Isildur is back in the office tomorrow and get back to you.

There are a lot of people waiting to do Supernatural Content, and this bug is blocking nearly everyone from experiencing this awesome storyline.

I believe these fixes are in 1.2. They should be on testbed soon.
I'm not sure what's up with the less-rare-but-stilll-hard-to-find spawns. I'll bring that one up in the live issues meeting tomorrow and see if we can do something about it in 1.2.
