Change of flag placement and the ability to fly flags outside of one's faction affiliation are pretty common requests/suggestions. We don't have immediate plans for either, but speaking personally I'd prefer to see the "personal flag" at the main mast rather than the stern. But you can take my word that the concern has been heard.

Unfortunately that can't happen, as much as any of us would like it to. The reason is that figureheads are an integral part of the ship models and thus cannot be swapped in or out. Each ship has a different, unique bow configuration -- many having no place at all for a figurehead -- and it's just not possible to make a variant for each possible instance of a figurehead. I think the game industry as a whole is years away from being able to accommodate dynamically adapted geometry, as would be required.
